Test 1: Can Purple Take the Pressure?
Purple claims their mattresses provide "perfectly supported sleep." To test this claim, researchers took a simple 25-lb kettlebell and dropped it from 5-1/2 feet above the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 mattress surface.
For comparison purposes, the same experiment was also performed on Tempur-Pedic's ProAdapt® Firm. Both mattresses were placed over a layer of glass to illustrate their supportive response to the 25-lb kettlebell.
The result? The Purple mattress buckled under the pressure of the kettlebell and the glass below shattered.
Test 2: Does Purple Minimize Motion Transfer?
Purple claims their mattresses offer “excellent motion cancellation." To find out, researchers placed 6 stacked, gelatin-filled wine glasses on the Purple Hybrid Premier 4 mattress surface — and then dropped a standard 15-lb bowling ball from 5-1/2 feet.
For comparison purposes, the same experiment was also performed on Tempur-Pedic's ProAdapt® Firm mattress.
The result? The Purple mattress bounced and jiggled like gelatin… causing the wine glass tower to topple over.
Test 3: Just How Real is Purple’s Human Egg Drop Test?
An investigative news report found that Purple conducted its “real experiment” on a fake mattress with extra padding that was never available for sale.
